Sitka herring quota edges up

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has adjusted the quota slightly for the upcoming Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery.

The new quota is 11,549 tons, up from the 11,055 tons announced back in December.

What a mismanaged fishery!!! You watch they are all gonna be fishin up in Salisbury sound b/c there is enough in Sitka sound.

So how many years have the fish and game been including the pollock schools as part of the herring schools? Last year they finally sent down a gillnet 40 fathoms and got back pollock...

Yeah they also have been mistaking juvenile herring schools as adults. Also when they finally set down a net on these "adult" schools, they pulled up millions of juvenile herring that pretty much ended up dying from suffocation and scale loss.

People need to learn how to manage the management. You'd think these highly paid state workers would take some science classes in the winter time when all they have to do is hang out in the office crunching numbers. Idle minds become little minds, little minds can't connect little sections to the bigger picture.
